Chithralekha,civil society,democracy
Ranjith is right,if chithralekha was not a dalit,this
incident might not have happened.
I like to quote NCDHR report about atrocities on
dalits.
Every hour 2 dalits are assaulted,every day 3 dalit
women are rapped,every day 2 dalits are murdered,every
day 2 dalit houses are burnt down.This a naked reality
of india.Kerala also gives its contribution.
The post independent india reported a brutual
massacre was KILLEVANAMANI(Tanjavur district of Tamil
nadu.It got a nationwide attention in late 60s.A first
time reported incident in national media.Now,Dalit
Rassertions are capturing new spaces.Dalit panther
movement produced a new generation of activists and
cultural activists.Daya pawar asked we are living in
outside villages,are we living in outside india?A well
articulated dalit intelligentsia is coming.They are
monitoring,questioning and challenging the status quo.
Chithralekha is fighting against all odds.She went to
Delhi for a public hearing.She knows the meaning daya
pawar's poetic words. She spoke very wellin dlhi as
well..
Rather than anybody else,she knows the castiest
society's anti-dalit bias.she questions all the
dominant forces.
Ambedkar wrote about indian democracy.In this republic
has no democray at all.there is no room for
equality,liberty and fraternity.If anybody tries to
understand chithralekha,you will get the spirit of
ambedkar's words.IF IT IS A REPUBLIC,IT IS THE
REPUBLIC OF TOUCHABLES BY THE TOUCHABLES AND FOR THE
TOUCHABLES.THE REPUBLIC IS AN EMPIRE OF THE HINDUS
OVER THE UNTOUCHABLES.IT IS A KIND OF COLONIALISM OF
THE HINDUS OVER THE UNTOUCHABLES.THE UNTOUCHABLES HAVE
NO RIGHT,THEY ARE ONLY TO WAIT,SERVE AND SUBMIT.The
neo-untouchability politics is doiminating in civil
society.The new civil society activism of
post-liberalised india won't give much space to
dalits.They are becoming a community of disposable
people for creating a Neo-liberal utopia in india.New
politics is not able to unerstand the dynamics of
casteist civil society.look at the report on
prevention of atrocities against scheduled
castes(NHRC,2004,delhi)it said that the failure of
indian state and civil society's attitude towards
dalits.Indian union and states failed to punish
prepatrators of vilence fter the crime is committed.
THE MOST IMPORTANT MATTER IS THAT THE LARGE MAJORITY
OF INDIAN PEOPLE HAVE VESTED INTERESTS IN THE BRAMIN
SOCIAL ORDER.THEY ARE THE BENEFICIARIES OF CASTE BASED
SYSTEM.these include cheap labour,social control and
deveopment meaures.Most of the private-public
patnership benefits are being cornered by casteist
civil society.I pesrsonally felt the casteist civil
society's attiude in earth quake rehabilitation of
gujarat.Tsunami exposed the same reality.
About reinventing politics-Eventough i have a
different opinions on various issues,i respect the
opinion of Marcos of Zapatista-Marcos is gay in
sanfrancisco,a black n south africa,asian in europe,a
chicano in sanisidro,an anarchist in spain,a palestine
in israel,an indigenous person in the strrets of san
cristobal,a gang member in neza,a rocker on campus,a
jew in germany,ombudsman in the sedana,feminist in
political parties,communist in the post-cold war
era,prisnor in cinalpa,pacifist in bosnia,..a dalit in
india -MARCOS is every undulate,oppressed,expolited
minority that is resiting and saying ENOUGH.This is
sensitivity is the most important matter.
At least, a democratic space is to be created
