I see Sarwar's article as a part of a grand game-plan by the "South- Asianists".
The objective of the game plan is to get Pakistan 'off the hook'. It is to prevent India from taking any retaliatory measures against the Rogue State. It is advertised as a plan for "peace". The strategy is multi-pronged. It started rolling even before the reverberations of the gunshots at the CST rail station died down. On the one hand play up the oh-so-sweet-and-caring message from Pakistan, expressing righteous indignation at what their own citizens wrought. Tell 'em that we too are victims of circumstances beyond our control. Beena Sarwar's article falls into this category. While the Sarwars are at it, others have started playing down the attacks themselves. That's why we see so many messages questioning "whose icon is the Taj". See, the attacks are nothing to worry about, only a few uber-rich, fat kids got killed. They don't represent India at all. Look at the atrocities perpetrated on lesser souls day in and out. Nobody is showing them on 24x7 news TV. An accompanying game is ridiculing the national anger at the terror outrage as an elitist phenomenon (a la Naqvi's 'ladies with lipsticks'). The third act is performed by the Amaresh Mishras. Surprisingly, this has got so much currency in the Leftist circles that the leading article today on Countercurrents is Mishra's rantings. Unfortunately, they are up against a hard wall - the long trail left by the terrorists, the hijacked trawler with the skipper's body, the satellite phone calls and above all, the captured and dead terrorists make it extremely difficult to sow doubts about the identity of the perpetrators, unlike in the case of say, the July 2006 train bombings. But nobody can accuse the Lefties of not trying. I would give the FOSA guys credit if they could show something better this time than holding candles at the Wagah. How's it like getting the Pakistani government to dismantle the jihadi terror camps? Persuading them to hand over Dawood, Maulana Azhar and other terrorists that top the list? What determines the future relationship between India and Pakistan is concrete results on the ground - dismantling of the Jihadi infrastructure, punishment for the perpetrators of the Mumbai atrocities. No sweet messages, sweets and candles are going to change that reality.
