Dear all I have many dear Sinhala friends in SL, and here is a message forwarded to me by one of those. The moral crisis they are undergoing defies easy description, leave alone easy solutions. Below is a message from a tamil friend.

However, I couldn’t leave or deny my own feelings for freedom and fight for rights inside me.... That’s what I feel right now... ,... Because I am also somehow responsible for the situation now in sri lanka specially north and east part where most of the Tamil speaking human beings are living... Because I born there and did nothing in the past to solve this conflict and find a solution for the oppressed people by the government... First of all, sir Lankan government is the main responsible for the war in that country, violence environment and also existence of LTTE in sri lanka now, Because since the independence of sri lanka in 1947 sri Lankan government has been discriminating against Tamil speaking human being’s rights in sri lanka specially north, east and upcountry where majority of Tamils are living ...for example take away the citizen rights of the upcountry Tamils...discriminating languages rights and violence against Tamils by killing and destroying their home and wealth in sri Lankan. However, Sri Lankan Government is not representing diversity of sri Lankan people...instead they became Sinhala Buddhist government in 1970.... Therefore, Tamils felt that they have to fight for their rights and freedom... So, in the beginning they fought through path of non violence and so called parliament democratic politics...whenever sri Lankan party wants Tamils votes they agree for a solution and signed agreements for the conflicts...whenever these agreements become a problem for their power in the government then they will through away these agreements and broke their promises they have given to Tamil people...and their leaders.. Tamils have been lead and represented by different leaders since independence of sri lanka...for example, Mr.selvanayagam...then Mr.Amirthalingam...and so on...when all their non violence and parliamentary politics failed to get a solution for the ethnic conflict and Failed to save the Tamils from massacring and killing and their lands which has been taking by deliberate and systematic Sinhala settlements by sri Lankan government and their military. Tamil speaking human being were living with fear and insecure in those days. So, it was natural that Young Tamils felt that they have to fight through the arm struggle to have their freedom, rights and to save the people. As the result Tamil people had more than 32 armed movements in 1983...however there were five main major groups such as TELO, LTTE, PLOT, EROS, EPRLF...also they formed and established in this order... in the process LTTE became powerful by their military and violent actions and it is the only movement doesn’t have any ideology of politics or political agenda but just trust in the armed struggle with conservatries ideas. However the movement is well control and disciplined by their leaders. Eventually , they took total power over Tamil people and became their political representative by killing, destroying and banned the other groups such as TELO, PLOTE, EPRLF and...Prohibiting their rights to fight for their people..... And there were no chance for collation politics under LTTE rule to fight for the rights and freedom. Because of LTTE’s stupid action and attitude without any political goal or agenda, now Tamil people are desperate in Sri Lanka without any solution for the ethnic conflict. Only these people have the right to decide whether LTTE is their representative or not, but not for the Tamil Diasporas living saves and comfortable wherever they live. That’s why I never support the LTTE because they are not fighting for people’s rights and freedom but their existence in based on demand for people’s rights and freedom. However these each groups had their own flags for their movement, and LTTE had this tiger flag...since they have conserverty ideologies and pure nationalist movement it is not a surprise. they took this tiger symbol from that region’s past history for example Tamil kings like bandaravanian, and sangilian and important south Indian kings like Chero, Chola, and pandiayars... these rulers used this tiger symbol as their flag. These kings rule and dominated and exploited these Tamil speaking people based on cast, gender, religion and class... so, it is not surprise that LTTE is using this flag....and it’s belong to their group, LTTE only and it is like other political parties have their own flags... Since it is an angry tiger flag, it can represent our anger over the oppressor... or maybe our own animal heritage...attitude...who knows.... Therefore it is not Tamil speaking people’s flag and it is not representing Tamil people and their nation...however, Tamil people are fighting for their self determination right, and they haven’t think about their flag...their flag should represent north and east people and their wealth like palmer tree, fish, sea, and so on .... Anyhow I would like to divide LTTE in to three groups...first LTTE leaders....then members who join with them to fight for their rights and freedom because of Sri Lankan government’s oppression and discriminations... and other members who have been joined by force. So, my anger and disagreements are with the leaders not with their members who had no choice other than fighting with them for their rights and freedom... so we have to care about these members like other Tamil people. My request for Tamil Diaspora in North America, Europe, and Australia... that this is the time for pressuring and demanding the government where we live in a peace full way with meditative and with a good musical show because this will not disturb international community and but attract them and feel them to participate with you.. in the same time, you can ask them to pressure sri Lankan government to stop war and put forward a solution for the ethnic conflict... Solution should be a federal solution as a minimum and it has an open place to discuss for a two states solution.... So, please put all your energy into these demands... Stop war.... We need a solution... Federal solution... Two states solutions... Tomorrow there may be no LTTE but after all of these experiences, lost, and sufferings, Tamil people are there left without any rights and freedom and going to live under sri Lankan army. So Tamil Diaspora please feels responsible for what you are doing... Just don’t act on your emotions...but act on your intelligent....and on behalf of Tamil speaking people who are suffering and dying there with their children each and every moment... Only this will help Tamil people who are suffering in sri lanka specially North and East... I also request international community please get involved in this process to find a solution for this conflict... Only the solution for this conflict will prevent future generation from taking arms and involving violence again...
