I tried putting it in ~/texmf, which is my TEXMFHOME, but it wasn't picking it up from there (it was still taking the latex-base files from /usr/local/texlive/2015/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base), so I just overlayed the latex-base.tds.zip from CTAN directly on top of /usr/local/texlive/2015/texmf-dist and ran mktexlsr. I ran the gregorio-test suite at this point and everything worked, so I think, provided I did things correctly, the backwards compatibility they built into the packages is working and GregorioTeX works as-is. Probably someone else should check as well, since I'm not too confident I set up the new LaTeX correctly.
