Most of the beneventan MSS were written without staff lines, like the
st. gall. Somewhat later, lines were frequently added at F (often in
red) and less frequently at C (in yellow)

Ok. It seems a good model.
So if we were trying to make the output as close to the source as
possible, having the ability to enable/disable staff lines would be
useful. It's a minor detail, but it also seems like an easyish thing to
implement....
Indeed, I'll make an option for it pretty soon. The main problem will be
the height of the lines and the way they'll be input. First if I
understand correctly, the height "g" (the same as in gabc) is just above
the red line? But in this case, is "m" (the maximum gabc letter) enough
to describe the highest note in Beneventan neumes? Also, I guess
sometimes we'll have to raise the lines a little if there are notes that
are too low (ex: if the user inputs "a")... These are not real
difficulties, but it's good if I know a bit more before implementing.
as for notation modes, I'd say
square notation on staff lines (enable/disable)
Ben notation on a choice of
full staff
no lines
c/f lines
option 5 seems too complex to be much use, at least to me
Ok. Would someone use two lines of ancient notation?
Thank you,
