Christopher, Peter, etc: The landing page for Google Groups allows for an introductory block, labeled Home, that could be used to intercept frustrated users. There could be a link there titled, `Where did Growl come from?!`, which would take the user somewhere explaining the different ways Growl can show up on their Mac, along with removal instructions, if necessary.
Google Groups is, obviously, indexed by Google, and if enough of these messages end up on the list, it could influence Growl search results negatively. Besides, proactively helping a frustrated user who's looking for help would allow the user to resolve their frustration and hopefully have them leave on a positive note.
