OK. Next step is to look in the Activity Monitor (in the same Utilities folder
where Console is) and see whether an application named GrowlHelperApp is listed
there.
If it is, use Activity Monitor to quit it.
Next, look in these two folders:
Your Home folder
Library
PreferencePanes
Your startup disk
Library
PreferencePanes
for an item named “Growl.prefPane”. Even if you find it in one place, look in
both. Whichever folder you find it in, move it from there to the Trash and
empty your Trash.
Last step:
Open up AppleScript Editor (also in the same Utilities folder) and run this
script:
tell app "Finder" to reveal (path to app "GrowlHelperApp")
If it succeeds, it'll say something like “alias "Name of your startup
disk:blah:blah:blah"” at the bottom of the window. Please tell it what it says.
If it fails with an error or asks you “Where is GrowlHelperApp?”, then Growl
is, at this point, no longer installed.

None of those applications use Growl, so your problems with those applications
are most probably not related to Growl.
