Turning off the sounds seems to have kept it from crashing. On login this morning, the conditions were similar to when it's crashed before, with 10 or so new emails coming in while several other programs were starting or doing their thing. The notifications for the emails flashed up with no problem (and no sound, of course). Growl did not crash.
