We tried the sliding thing and it was found not to be a good thing since people
were reading the next notification by then and then the text sliding caused
usability issues.

Try the checkbox in GrowlMail to limit to just the inbox. I think it has that.
If not hit up the GrowlMail list.

Lots of people like Growl and have liked it for a decade. You came into this
with expectations that are different than the other people. That's just how it
is. So either your expectations change to what the actual reality is or you
just don't like it. Either way Growl's not likely to change. Growl itself sits
and waits for notifications from other applications. A large list of
applications support Growl, it just so happens that the things you want to work
with Growl are the hardest things to make work with Growl. We can't walk into
the offices at Cupertino and say "hey, support Growl!" and we would not have
been able to ever, that's just not reality.
