OK, determined that one is for the app, one is built-in to the OS 
(http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/168653/remove-uninstalled-applications-from-the-notifications-system-preferences).
 
I have to assume that the messages I'm still seeing are from the OS 
built-in Twitter. I am not sure there's a way to make Growl manage them. 
I'll just turn them off for the inverse color icon, and take it from there. 
(Though I still don't understand why it's only @ replies and DMs to the 
second logged-on account...)
