That is very odd ant behavior. What is ANT_HOME set to? Is there an /etc/ant.conf?

Thomas,

I re-installed the distro ant 1.6.5, and tried again, re-setting
the environment to refer to that. No luck.

But now I see new problems:

$ ant -version
/usr/bin/build-classpath: error: Could not find xml-commons-apis Java extension for this JVM
/usr/bin/build-classpath: error: Some specified jars were not found
Apache Ant version 1.6.5 compiled on April 4 2007

$ ant --noconfig -version
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/ apache/tools/ant/launch/Launcher

I'm starting to suspect that the distro is broken... I don't remember
doing any Ant builds since I last upgraded. Also, I can't reconcile
RPM's reports about where the Ant files are, with their actual locations.

But that doesn't explain why the ant 1.7 build would fail.

Steve,
I can't remember if this was the exact error, but I believe that I
had a problem when using ant 1.7. perhaps you could try using ant
version 1.6.2. Making the build work with 1.7 is on my todo list.

Charles,

I re-untar'd, re-configured, and re-built.

Same error.

printenv ANT_HOME
        /usr/local/jdk/ant
printenv JAVA_HOME
        /usr/local/jdk/jsdk
ant -version
Apache Ant version 1.7.0 compiled on December 13 2006
ant --noconfig -version
Apache Ant version 1.7.0 compiled on December 13 2006

The directory /usr/local/jdk/ is the correct path on our systems
for Java packages.

which ant
        /usr/local/jdk/ant/bin/ant
which javac
        /usr/local/jdk/jsdk/bin/javac

This is Scientific Linux 1.5 on an x86_64.

I also tried switching from JDK 1.5 to JDK 1.6. No improvement.

java -version
java version "1.6.0_04"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_04-b12)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 10.0-b19, mixed mode)

Okay. The "make clean" isn't going to do much, you'll want to untar
the original installer again.

What are the settings of ANT_HOME and JAVA_HOME? What does "ant -
version" return? What does "ant --noconfig -version" return?

Charles,

I deleted the distribution ant packages (making sure the config
files
in /etc were gone), did a make clean, re-configured, and re-made.

I got the same error.
