You are not alone Jim.  I have a problem reading his e-mails as well.  It's
not that I cannot understand them - but trying to scroll across and read at
the same time is extremely annoying.

What I do is hit the reply icon, which changes the format into a small
screen and makes the text like a paragraph.

Works for me.
