Since we're talking about the ABS again, thought I'd give an update on
mine --- After having replaced the entire system, and having a mechanic
from Yamaha Corp come out and take a looksee, they've come to the conclusion
that the ABS is functioning properly... problem is w/ the worn suspension.
BUT.... I've just recently had the shocks rebuilt and replaced all bushings
in the rear swingarm. Everything's been tightened, poked & prodded. The
one final dissenting factor may be the front end... the steering tube (or
perhaps the ball joint) to be more specific. So, their theory is that the
ABS doesn't sense what it's supposed to upon braking since the front end has
some play in it. Mind you the play is not noticeable save for the "clunk"
you hear when braking at low speeds, or even just standing there and pushing
forward w/ the front brake engaged.
Once I figure what I need to replace, and should the parts ever make it in
before the new millennium is up, I'll update y'all w/ my findings.
Later,
-Thomas

Subject: ABS problem while rebuilding the unit.
> Hello to everyone, I recently started to rebuild my abs pump. Thanks for
the rebuild procedure from the I-net, it was really helpfull. But a problem
occured.
> The 2 cilinders in de sides of the unit. The ones with the O-rings.
> Inside these ones are little pistons with one sealing each.
> One of these sealings is broken, dealer says he can't order the peaces.
> Can I replace it by a regular O-ring? I doubt that, but what do you think?
> Another problem is that one of the cilinders was become one rusty part
with the little piston.
> Think that's because the side who slides against the bearing (at the axle
of the electrical engine) has no lubrication whith the cilinder. Can I use
some regular grease?
> In the attempt to seperate them, i dammaged them a little. Dealer tells
the same story.
> Question: ABS unit GTS = ABS unit FJ1200??
> Is there someone in Belgium who has spare parts? (One cilinder + piston +
sealings)
> Thanks for listening to this, already many times heared, subject.
> Regards Joost Cuyckens, Belgium.
