I recently painted my swingarm with an epoxy paint that filled in the tick
marks pretty well - which I never liked using anyway.  I found that by using
an old small calliper that I carry in my tool pouch to determine if the
space between the front of the sliding aluminium block and the rear of the
fixed aluminium block is equal on both sides of the bike works well.
