Hi Barry. I thought of doing the same thing . I was under the impression
that the GTS powerplant was more like the FZR 1000 unit. From what I can
tell so far it really has more in common to the (later\newer) YZF 1000
("Thunderace" in some countries) powerplant. I've been doing direct
comparisons with a FZR 1000 unit & everything is either altered a little or
just plain beefier in the GTS unit. I'm quite impressed with the areas
Yamahas has addressed in turning this powerplant into a sport touring unit.
In the past I've seen some Listers raise some concerns on the beefiness of
our GTS powerplant. Well , I would consider this a pretty heavy duty version
of the Genesis powerplant. It'll handle whatever I can throw at it & then
some. On the subject of the 6 speed giving out under race conditions, all I
can say is that I won't be racing so I can see no problems arising from
these kind of load conditions. Ride safe. Peter Piazza
