OK, my bike has 53K+ miles, and the oil consumption is getting annoying. When
riding moderately hard with a passenger and luggage (a lot of time between 6~7K
rpm, very rarely above 7K), the low oil light comes on about every 350 miles.
Riding solo, with more highway time at about 5K rpm, and I can go 450~500 miles
between adding oil. Other than the oil thing, the bike is in great shape (I had
a lot of suspension maintenance done in the last year or so). The compression is
pretty good, just about 185 on each cylinder.

I'm probably going to be in a situation where I'll have very limited
opportunities to do any serious maintenance (more than oil changes) for the next
10~15K miles. I'm considering having the valve seals replaced, at the
recommendation of a local shop.

What do you think of the suggestion to replace the valve seals? Any suggestions?
