Hey guys, I hope I'm not too late to put my 2 cents worth in on this tire debate.
I enjoyed riding on the Pirelli Dragons for the past two years with good results. I used the older MTR03 & 04 models and was pleased with the way they stuck, and the mileage....15,000kms the first year and 11,000kms the second year (not sure why the difference in mileage). With noticeable cupping on the front but both front and rear wore quite evenly. I like to try different things before I feel they are the best for me, so I did some research last winter and narrowed it down to 4 tires. Michelin - Macadam (90 & 100X) Pirelli - Dragon (new model MTR23 & 24) Metzler - MEZ4 Avon - Azaro II (AV35 & 36) After getting prices on all these tires from all the major dealers within 200 miles, I finally chose the Azaro II. I got a really good price and had been swayed by an interesting article written by someone who toured the Avon factory. I could pass this article on to anyone who is interested. Anyway, after a short summer of riding on them I am very impressed by the performance of the tires, and the smaller front tire size recommended by others (the first time I used this size) on the list really improved the feel. However the mileage on these tire is not what I was hoping for. I am at about 7200kms and the rear tire is bald, while the front probably has about 2000kms left and only shows slight indication of cupping. No weaving noticed. I'm a light (150lb), fairly aggressive, single rider for the most part except when I pack about 30lbs of gear for road trips. Next year I'll try something else, probably the new Dragons. Hope this helps. Maybe the slight hunting is due to the arched profile? I would imagine it would feel a little different in a straight line. Did you notice any quicker steering response? I noticed that their web site said there's a 20% milage increase over the Azaro I . That's what I'm looking for is a bit more milage so I think I'm sold. Hoping that the Azaro I got at least 3500 miles. :) Rick > Mine was the plain jane Azaro II.
