The adapter plate is separate, simple stamped plate with the 3 tangs of
the outside H4 design and an inside tang to align the with a notch on
the HID bulb. You can see in Dale Wilson's (Warchild) write up from the
LD list.

Mark, as I recall it was someone from one of the Scandinavian country's
- Switzerland or Sweden?. It evidently isn't common in all the European
models.
With dual lamps you can then install a second unshielded bulb to
complement the shielded / low beam lamp. You really would be lighting up
the night with dual HID lamps and could probably dispense with any aux
lamps.
