Geez, I feel like I started another topic thread that won't die (like
oil or tires).

For Derek and others, here is a copy of the discussion I had with the LD
guy that
put together the group buy I went in on, on foregoing low/ high beam to
go to a single HID.
Like Hawke said, you have to see them to understand and is only worth it
if you do a lot of night riding.
Also like Mike C said the GTS headlight adjustment is touchy (besides
the manual being backwards), and aiming the high beam is not good for
the low beam and vice versa.

Dave,

Frankly, this is the biggest hurdle to using them. They have no hi /
lo
capability - it's on or off. As I've mentioned privately to another
lister,
its more a mental thing than an actual problem. The shielded HID bulb I

have installed makes things visible farther down than the road than my
std.
halogen bulbs on hi, but somehow doesn't bother oncoming drivers (I've
literally not been flashed once). Don't get me wrong - I'm suffering
mentally too, and would feel funny without a high beam (hence why I
originally left the std. bulb in the left headlight). When I flick to
hi,
the HID stays on, and the std bulb goes to high like it normally would.
I seriously can't even tell its there. And also why I'm now looking to
get
the second one. I've been so blown away at the performance of the
shielded
bulb, I'm thanking my lucky stars Baja Designs offers the unshielded
bulb as
well - it ought to make my trip to Utah from CT next spring a lot safer.

I will make one point however... If I was riding a single lens/bulb
bike,
having used the shielded now, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to
replace
any halogen with it - its that much better. I ride with another Trophy
owner whose a die-hard PIAA ultrawhite advocate. We lined the bikes up,

and the difference is night and day. The single shielded HID makes the
pair
of ultrawhites look like mini maglites, except with a really bad
pattern. Just
a smooth wash of light, no hotspots, no dark areas from the HID - can't
say the same for the PIAAs. Its not that I think they are a bad
product,
they just don't compare with the HIDs (although your wallet would
obviously
thank you).
Good luck,

I think you said that you bought the "shielded" HID lamp. How does this

compare with the original low or high beam patterns? I'd love to have
and
HID headlight, but maybe not if it's like having the high beam on all
the
time. If only I could adjust the headlight beam like in a theatrical
fixture....

Derek the stagehand.
