This is the 'Electronic Fuel Injection' warning light. This light should go out 1.4 seconds after ignition turned on but will flash when the starter is pushed.
Book says if it stays on get the dealer to check EFI Circuit since the ECU is detecting a fault. A competent Yamaha dealer should have been able to tell you exactly what was going by interrogating the ECU in dealer mode and reading the error codes. If your dealers were unable to determine the problem, were they able to say that the ECU appeared to function normally since no error codes were being reported? If the machine really functions OK with this light on it may suggest a wiring short circuit causing this lamp to remain on! Is it possible that a dealer mode plug has been left installed. Check under the seat to the rear you should see a couple of short cables with Terminating blanks fitted. That's normal. If you have a short piece of cable with two wires, light green and Whir/red then that's the dealer mode test coupler and should not be left in for normal use. Hope this helps. The engine light stays on. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? Any recommended fixes The current owner has had it in to two different Yamaha dealers but they have been unable to determine the problem. I'm told other than the light the machine performs perfectly.
