Ron,
If you can handle a soldering iron or a crimping tool then you won't need
anything as fancy as the Yamaha part.
Make up your own shorting link. You should be able to get the necessary
connectors from most Auto parts shops or Radio Shack.
Remove the Protection cap. Orientate the connector so that as you look at it
you have the terminals horizontal and the lock plate uppermost.
The link is connected between the top two terminals. After 1 second the ECU
will be set in dealer mode.
There are three method of checking the codes-by using the EFI light, by
using a pocket tester or the Yamaha diagnostic tester.
If your EFI lamp stays on all the time then obviously the first method is
out.
Take the readings using a pocket tester {set to 20-volt range} by connecting
the negative lead to bottom left terminal and the meter positive to battery
positive.
The codes can be read from the deflection of the meter 0 to 12 V.
After going into dealer mode. The deflections are read by counting the
deflections as follows, If the pointer remains at zero for 3 seconds then
goes to 12v, this is the start of an error fault code item.
i.e. a complete vale is framed by 3 second gaps.
If the needle remains at 12V for 1 second this a value of 10.
If the needle remains at 12V for 0.5 second this is a value of 1.
The sum of the values 10 and 1 gives the value of the fault code.
If you post the values you get I'm sure you will get plenty of response from
those of us with a manual as to what your problem is.
>From what you said about this machine already then I think it's more likely
to be a wiring loom problem or as Nicholas has suggested a disconnected
sensor, although a disconnected sensor should give you an error code which
will tell you which one. E.g. error code 24 is 'Discontinuity in the O2
sensor'.
Ah! The joys of owning a high tech motorcycle... Now when I was a boy we
used to fix them at the side of the road with no more than a wire coat
hanger, a piece of string, a rock ...

Subject: EFI test coupler
Hello -
I'm trying to troubleshoot an EFI engine light on a Yamaha GTS 1000
(1993).
Can anyone tell me where to purchase an "EFI test coupler" Yamaha part
number: YM-3149 or 90890-03149
The part number came out of the GTS service manual, but the local dealer
here in Denver cannot find a listing for the part
Thanks, R Huggins
