Yea, I too would like you to up the resale by paying $9k ;)

Over the years I've dropped mine (3 times) all at less than 1 mph.  It
is a bear at low speeds but if yours arms/legs are well proportioned to
6'6 height you should have a pile of leverage to keep this from
happening (watch out for dust/gravel underfoot when you plant your
support).

As for a first bike...I personally wouldn't recommend a "plastic" bike
for a first bike.  A Kawasaki KLR-650 would probably handle a 350#
rider, I've got one and it's way more maneuverable, easy to balance,
handles long legs, and is a blast too.  It can take going down at 10-15
mph with almost nothing more than small scratches (damn riding at -15C,
the roads can be icy ;).  It's my winter bike up here in Canada.  KLR's
are relatively cheap and have a good resale value up here and can handle
freeway speeds.

You can also learn better if your not parnoid about putting your bike
down, in my opinion...
