I'm going to differ from most of the other replies you got. BUY THE
GTS! $9K is way too much. Mine had 3600 miles on it & cost me $7000 a
couple of years ago. Be sure to check the ABS to see it's working.

The GTS has the best brakes on any bike ever! The RADD front end works
very well and in my opinion is very forgiving of mistakes. Keep good
tires on it and the GTS will bail you out of many bad situations. The
engine does not have the peak horsepower of the liter superbikes but has
GOBS of mid range torque. This makes it more tolerant of being in the
wrong gear when you need to accelerate. It is confortable enough (with
a Corbin seat) to ride all day and yet is still able to play in the
corners. And even though it's going on 10 years old it is still one of
the best looking bikes AND one of the most advanced bikes.

I've dropped mine twice while stopped. It can be a real handfull if it
gets off balance. Neither time did any significant damage (one scratch
on the left mirror, one on the right side fairing).

My $.02 worth

Subject: Advice on a purchase

I currently don't have a GTS-1000, but I am looking at one. Its a 93,
with 12,000 miles in pristine condition. Its being sold by a dealer.
They want $9K for it.

This will be my first bike (yes, its big but I'm 6'6" 350#, so I need a
larger bike). My main concern is this a good deal? Second, is this
bike going to be too much for a first bike?

Thanks
Mark
