I don't think anyone meant you to run the ABS test while you are actually pumping the fluid out of the bleeders. Just bleed the system, run the test a few times, pump through more new fluid, run the test, pump...etc. The idea is to get some new fluid in through to all the minute cavities and spaces within the solenoid valves and other ABS components (and get the stale stuff out). After you bleed the system initially don't expect anything noticeable after you run the test and bleed again. We are only talking about tiny volumes "stuck" inside the solenoid valves. Remember also, this procedure is only needed (as far as I know) in theory. It does not appear in any Yamaha maintenance manuals. But it certainly won't hurt to do it and I haven't heard anything that would disprove the theory yet.

This was the first time I've tried this method, typically I just do it manually, but I remember reading that doing it this way may not move the fluid through the HU pump. I regularly lock my brakes on gravel during the summer to make sure the ABS system gets a little bit of a workout and it seems to work fine, but I wanted to try this method also. When I ran the test I had my lovely assistant apply both brakes before turning the key on. I then heard and she felt the ABS pulse the front brake then the back brake for about 2 seconds each. I tried to open the bleed valves on the calipers at the same time as this pulsing, but noticed that the fluid did not flow out any differently than when I did it manually. Am I doing something wrong?
