Take a crescent wrench or a pair of slip-jointed pliers to the flat edges on
the bar weights and unscrew them.  The screw heads seem to be there for
decoration as they appear to do nothing.  You might want to put some kind of
protective shield on the slip-jointed pliers' jaws if you go that route.  I
used duct tape to keep from scratching the bar ends (it didn't help much).
