Lee, Welcome to the "elite" ;^) group of GTS owners. I'm 5'8", so have the same problem with reach. I have helibars on my '94 and they are comfortable for me on extended rides.
I have the "Superbike" kit from Ralph Weiss in Germany on the '93. I'm using bars from a Seca II. They give a much more upright riding position with a much better view of the dash. There is no interference with either the wind screen or the tank. The throttle cables and clutch/brake hydraulics are no problem. The installation was nothing particularly difficult. You'll find a variety of opinions as to the ergos, but you'll find concensus here on the list that the GTS has aged well and is still one of the best all around bikes going. Roger Van Santen
