The pithy ruminations from Spee-dee-D on
<Autocom Info> were:
=> Does anyone know anything about Autocom systems? I want something that will
=> allow me to listen to music (mp3 player), use my cell (at least hear it
=> ring), and above all - hear my radar detector. I have used my radar
=> detector for 2 years now, but find that the single, helmet mounted speaker
=> is barely loud enough to hear clearly above the road noise over 120 km/hr.
=> I don't want to loose my custom fitted earplugs and would like a system that
=> can boost the volume level loud enough.
=>
=> I've just stumbled across Autocom, and they look pretty good, but don't know
=> about any others. I'd appreciate your feedback.

I've got two Autocomm systems (one for each GTS, of course :). Prior to the
Autocomm, I had a J&M system. The Autocomm is expensive, but works noticibly
better than the J&M. I can easily conduct clear conversations up to about
80mph, and simple stuff (like "turn left!") above that. This is while wearing
earplugs.

One of the nice things about the current Autocomm is that it will operate from
either the bike power or from a 9V battery, and it's about te size of a pack of
cigarettes. I've got it wired into GTS^2, but it's "portable" if I want to move
it. Also, contrary to what Autocomm will tell you, their cables are physically
and electrically compatible (ie, wired the same as) standard IBM-PC DIN-5
keyboard cables (not PS2 or USB, but the older style). This makes replacing a
lost or damaged cable pretty easy.

Hearing the radar detector or music will depend in part on the output signal
strenght of the units.
