the gcd was not made in good faith as a serious proposal, but as a
criticism of the process we just went through. that has been made
explicit[1][2].

upping the ante like this feels like abuse of the gcd process to me,
and i don't see how continuing like this is going to help bring the
temperature back down.

we're all in this together, and for the most part, we're all really good
at understanding that and acting that way, in spite of disagreements.

can we please just close this pr? the point has been made, and it's
acting as a locus of contention and divisiveness, and i don't see how it
can be anything else.
