exactly?

Second, the Bashir episode you refer to isn't exactly what I had in mind, but I 
hear where you're coming from.  I was referring actually to Dr. Kingsley's 
experiments from TNG and the protagonist would be a bioengineered (from 
scratch, not modified from existing humans) human that everyone *knows* is 
bioengineered, growing up in the Federation.  Probably have to have him be a 
Starfleet cadet or something to make it work story-wise-- already somewhat 
jaded and cynical and bitter at being different, then finding glorious 
acceptance in Starfleet after he saves it from itself and total destruction.
