Not in the novel they weren't. They were fighting over real estate and
resources. I do not recall any statement from Rico or other characters
in the novel that the bugs were intent on simply wiping out humans
because they weren't bugs. As Rico was pretty much a product of his
environment, if the humans believed that he'd have said it.
