It's possible he said something along the line of "fixed wings won't work", which would be less idiotic, but still wrong. Flapping, which is essentially a reaction engine, would work just fine in the absence of gravity. (fixed wings work just fine, but people who don't think the problem through tend to think they won't. That's just a failure to understand the mechanisms at work on a wing.
