It's quite some time ago, that i read the Asimov story, but IIRC it did not state that wings don't work in zero-g. It did state that a design inspired by fish, does work better then wings. No idea about the correctness of that claim, the explainations in the story had seemed convincing back then when i read it, but i can't remeber them anymore.
