Hello Brandon, could their gear be used by humans, and vice versa? Random thought: What happens if they try to implement their field manuals with inferior substitute battlesuits? Could there be a disaster or two lurking in the plot, because nobody realized that TL6+1 battlesuits can't designate for PGM, or that they'd get 50% maintenance breakdowns on a routine road march, or that they can't see in the dark? > The Martians are primarily based on War of the Worlds, with some > additional material from the John Carter of Mars books. Tentacled horrors or Dejah Thoris? The latter could be an inspiration to all those 120-lb. battlesuit pilots. > > But HEAT came a bit later, or did that change, too? > > I know the HEAT principle was understood by 1939, but I'm not sure when > the first HEAT warhead was in service. Used in 1940 by the Germans, but their HEAT 'satchel charges' were pretty secret. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HEAT#History > Do you mean GURPS WWII shouldn't have added them? Yes. Vehicles had decided to gloss over electric motors, which implies drivetrains had a choice of mechanical, hydraulic, or electric transmission, with no extra charge. One can agree with that decision or not, but reversing it in the WWII book, without matching adjustment to the drivetrain stats, was the wrong way to change things.
