I have considered adding an additional crewmember to the fighter. You still have to assign 3-4 Positions (Pilot, Sensor, Comm, Gunner) to 2 Crewmembers but it should be in principle workable. It seems though that the fighters were intended as 1 Crew ship, and the additional seat is an artefact of the modular ship design rules, so i don't think it is the intended solution.*
I was assuming that GTraveller fixed mounts are not completly fixed, but somewhat moveable internal mounts, though i can't say for sure where i got that from. With that i see point defence fire as possible as long as the ramming craft/missle comes from the right direction, but i would assume using the gun by directing the ship is not the optimal use.
I agree you can share Radscanner and Passive Scan results. But i don't think the Active Scan bonus should be shareable, as i assume it includes information like "At what exact distance and at what exact coordinates relative to my ship is the target right now". For that you need to scan the fighter as well, get very good readings of it and do complex calculations, that most likely will mean that the transmitted data will be out of date.
If the Imperial Navy, (or the Reserve Fleet) operate a fighter, a suitable mothership will most likely be there. However i think it is feasable that lowtech worlds use surplus fighters as cheap alternative to system defence boats, or that mercenaries use fighters for long range missions, or that a large tradeship has a fighter(s) as subcraft for defence, in the hope that the fighter(s) can draw attackers away from the trader and then flee themselfs.
*But then GTraveller, at least the version i have is not really consistent in that regard. There is a penality for larger ships if Pilot and Astrogation rolls are made by the same Person, but every Template with Crewpositions has either Astrogation+Pilot or none.
