One big problem with leaving the vicinity of earth:
Radiation

Effective shielding is generally very bulky and probably heavy too.

Travel time and resupply are probably issues as well.
The belt is further than mars, and there will probably be a number of
things that you either cannot find the materials for, or do not have
the skills/tools to manufacture.(is there anyone on the team with the
skills/tools/materials for indefinite maintenance of all those
prosthetics like the 'taur body? How about repairs in the case of
damage? Those are pretty specialized skills...)

If there is a small community already living in the belts, that will
help a lot as far as not having the skills/materials in-house, but
that far from a central authority, there is also the problem of
bandits. If your party can get there, so can others trying to avoid
prosecution/extradition, and they will probably have fewer morals than
the party does.
