I would assume that after a critical mass of resources available to even the poorest people is reached, using the amount of resources you control, as signifer for your social status will fall out of fashion. There will be other status symbols, i'd use artistic circles, where being considered the most advanced and least understood by the yokels (and thus most likely not a top earner), makes you the top dog among them, as most likely model.
To model such a society, you need to find out or decide, how many people hunt for wealth, because of the social status, and how many hunt for social status, because of wealth. Most people don't know that about themselfs. And if people by and large are still after status symbols, if your status symbols are something like facebook friends and you can't really bribe people to be yours, because, with what exactly you will pay them, then this is a very alien society indeed.
And about people who live the wrong way. Today you run into them or into ecconomic restrictions, that you attribute to them. If it is possible, to spend your whole life in a political correct (for your values) gated community, how many people will really get worked up about them to actually do anything.
The more secure, sheltered and decadent people get, the more they are content, if any remaining problems are discussed in comitees for indefinite timespans.
You most likey still have individual amok runners, or Charkes Manson like people, but anything beyond that, i consider questionable.
