Hello Johannes,

the true killer is trying to frame Ingrun, right? So he or she
would go the extra mile to make sure that there are witnesses
who see what they're supposed to see -- a figure who looks a
bit like Ingrun, but not close enough to see the differences.

But that must not endanger the mission. So the killer will try
to sneak in, make a silent kill, and then deliberately stumble
and alert people on the way out.

If the kill was silent, the killer could even catch a breath
and arrange the evidence before he makes the "noisy break-in".

My initial draft of the killers plan had been, sneak in, make the kill fast don't bother about the noise, run to the peristylium onto the roof and into the night. A silent kill and afterwards deliberate noise is a better plan though.

However if the senaking in does not work as planned, becasue he steps on a weak part of the roof, since he does not have directions where he can step on the roof and where he can't, moving fast is a viable plan B.

And if he is lefthanded, he likely intended to leave the sword sticking in the victim anyway. If he is forced to use plan B, there is a chance that someone sees him wielding the sword lefthanded.

I'm not really sure if i use it that way though. Other then that there is a witness that says Ingrun wielded her sword lefthanded, making the deception shakey from the beginning without pc intervention, i don't really see how i can use it at the moment.

Arena armour usually has some distinctive features such as helmet shapes
or plumes or colour, though we never have established what Ingruns would
be. She does not wear her arena outfit outside the arena though. She
dresses slightly unusual, wearing trousers and always long sleeved shirts.

Why is that a problem? Say there are half a dozen people who
swear that they had recognized Ingrun in her arena armor. If
they're asked how they can be sure that it was Ingrun, they
will come back to the armor. The right plume, the right
weapon, must have been her. You could even throw in some
sort of fanboy who will claim that her fighting style when
she cut her way out was typical for her.

Sure you can try to frame a professional wrestler for premeditated murder by wearing his arena outfit. But that would immediatly look like a setup, especially if the wrestler was not prone to wear his outfit anywhere outside the ring.

Given Ingrun has worn her arena outfit only when she had to and she could take less conspicious training armour, that is more suited to the task. Since i intend to have a competent investigator for a change, the investigator would smell rat from the start.

Using a whig in her hairstyle and colour and clothes like she wears on parties should be enough. Some of the staff (such as litter bearers) have seen her on parties, though if there was interaction it was rather brief. And also in ancient rome people talked about what VIPs wear to parties.

Re clues, how many women who could mirror her fighting style?
Has one gone AWOL?

Her arena fights are against competent opponents who are prepared and she has a sword and a shield. That is a fight with only one sword and opponents, who are suprised. In the current draft, the most that witnesses see, is the killer running with the sword in hand. Sure some witnesses might recognize Ingruns swordwork there, if they have already been fooled by the whig and the clothes. But that is more a matter of unreliable witnesses not so much of copying the style.

Even better i can have them invite Helga,
Ingruns most permanent lover and she predictably brings Ingrun along. A
party where she can bring Ingrun along, rather then the other way round,
as it usually happens, will make Helga very happy and thus she is unlikely
to smell rat, because of some weird arrangements.

Is Helga a player character or a non-player character?

Helga is an NPC.
