Hello Mike,

so you're talking about a fantasy-style world on the inside of a
dyson sphere? A key question would be if the sphere rotates to
create 1 G at the equator (and zero G at the poles) or not. No
rotation and you need magic to keep the soil and air down. But
with rotation all the soil and water will collect in a narrow
band at the equator. No better than a ringworld.

The Stargate-style setting has promises. You have an ancient
technical and/or magical gate system and plenty of worlds to
explore, one per adventure. A little problem with the Stargate
setting is that Earth didn't go for overt colonization, if
only to get their eggs into different baskets.

Take a habitable world (with or without primitives, "this is
war, you know ...") and keep the gate open for one hour per
day. How many days before the new world had a viable
population and a decent tech base?

Case 1: The player characters hear rumors that strangers with
terrible magics have conquered the kingdom next door.
Every single one has a magic wand which kills at a
distance, they're riding noisy dragons spewing vile
        smoke, etc.

Case 2: Something about Site Baker Two feels wrong, but the
first contingent of settlers from Operation Bolthole
will arrive in three weeks unless there is clear
evidence to cancel the op. "I have a bad feeling
        about this" isn't sufficient.

For that, it isn't necessary to add the complication of a
dyson sphere. A couple of years ago somebody had the idea
of an invasion of Yrth (from GURPS Fantasy) by templars
from present-day Earth. Should be in the archives.

Regards,
Onno

PS - please don't cross-post this to other lists.
