But that is a problem today, the best Close air support is either provided by Attack Helos or purpose built subsonic aircraft. Though frequently both Marine and Naval Aviators are trained in both Air superiority and ground support, try fining a Air force combat pilot that will admit to knowing how to provide Close Ground Support. > > >>> One dividing line is supersonic speed -- if it is supersonic it can also >>> go >>> to orbit -- and another dividing line is more than 3 or 4 G acceleration. >>> 3 >>> G from multiple separate thrusters is enough to keep a VTOL flying with >>> redundancy on any reasonable planet. I guess that would depend on the radius of operations your "Amphibious" or more properly "Space borne" fighters can operate with. The idea of parking your invasion fleet at the edge of a system and conducting operations from that base amuses me. Heck from that model I would look at Riverine operations instead of air operations. Your APCs would be Tango Boats, your primary escorts and Heavy fire support would be Monitors with PBRs, Alpha Boats and Swift Boats being your intercept forces. -- Evyn _______________________________________________ GurpsNet-L mailing list <[email protected]> http://mail.sjgames.com/mailman/listinfo/gurpsnet-l
