I am inclined to agree. I think I would rather hear D R or S T rather than
Drive for Doctor and Street for Saint.

Hi,
I think it'd be nice if the TTS manufacturers would stop putting small
dictionary entries like dr or st or ms or whatever
into their products. It's nice when they work correctly, but when they
don't sound right in context, it can be an
annoyance.
Jason.

Most words that either end in O R or E R are mispronounced. Words
that have T E R in them, such as interested, are also
mispronounced. It would be nice if this could be fixed, but, as I'm
sure you have all noticed, each electronic reader has its own
particular quirks. For instance, the Bookport always pronounced D R
as drive. Even though this is correct, it is more commonly
pronounced doctor in the real world. And Saint Teresa being
pronounced "Street Teresa... well, that is a bit much!

Hi folks,
I'm sure those of us on this listserv can create a short list of
words that the present Book Sense speech synthesis does badly. Here
are a few that I have noticed that are regularly mangled. I hope
these fixes can be put in the next release.
Mispronunciations:
Barbara
Labor
October
Interested
and US dollars being read as Australian dollars
Any more for the list?

Jeremiah 29:11-14 (Amplified Bible)
11For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the
Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to
give you hope in your final outcome.
12Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me,
and I will hear and heed you.
13Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital
necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.(A)
14I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will release you
from captivity and gather you from all the nations and all the places
to which I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back
to the place from which I caused you to be carried away captive.
