I have been using window eyes with windows XP home for 5 years now and am
currently running the beta with no significant problems. I think there are
times when more memory would be nice, but 512 megs of RAM works for
everything I have and am doing. Of course I do no ram intensive computer
assisted design work nor heavy video editing. More memory might be needed
for that kind of thing, but for most everything else, 512 works fine in XP
with window eyes including the new beta. I should add here that I rarely
run more than 3 or 4 programs at once (excluding system related programs.)
I imagine that were I recording something from the net, doing word
processing, running a spread sheet, and maybe one or two more things, I
would not be surprised to encounter problems with my 512 MG memory. RD

I don't know about Window-Eyes, but I have run JAWS very successfully with
512MB of Ram as recently as two months ago, before my work computer was
finally upgraded. It's not ideal, no, not by a long-thot, but it has worked
just fine.

Hi Gail,
I personally don't think that 512MB would be enough even if Window-Eyes
wasn't running. Applications are getting more and more demanding, and
memory is cheap, so go for that upgrade <Smile>.

It hasn't given me problems until this beta and they're saying that this
beta doesn't take that much RAM, so why now?
Gail
I Gail,
Sounds like you need a RAM update to me. Half a gig is going to give you
problems
with XP I reckon. 1GB would be the minimum I would recommend.

I've turned off scripting and for the most part the beta works better,
but I
still
get loss of speech for no reason I can ascertain and it still happens
sporadically,
several occurrences right in a row and then it runs fine for a day. I can
give no
definite reason but it has always happened with Eloquence and it usually
happens
when I go to a website, not the same one. When I used Dectalk Access 32
for
WindowEyes
for testing purposes, it didn't happen, but I have to slow that down to
understand
it and even then it's more difficult for me to understand so I'd rather
not
go back
to that. I'm using Windows XP with half a gig of RAM.
