Nope you not missing anything.  When you have a CPU that is able to run 64
Bit, it is still able to do 32 Bit.  How ever if your sound card, video, and
anything hardware related has not made a 64 bit Driver for that Device, then
you will have issues.  It's not the OS that is holding back from switching
to true 64 Bit, it's the Hardware Vendors and Software Vendors that is
holding back.  As they have to research and reprogram everything for the new
Architecture.

Well articles I read in the technology guides in our local newspapers 
for example consistently say that people should (if they can) get their 
local technitions to build their computer systems for them but that of 
course isn't always practical, the ragument for this being that the 
customer can choose the components or operating system he/she desires.

Now I'm not  absolutely familiar with PC Notebooks these days but the 
one's I see reviewed have options to "upgrade" to Windows XP over Vista.

So what if you've got a machine which is capable of running a 64-bit 
operating system, you can still load a 32-bit operating system onto it 
as far as I know.

Am I missing something here?
