Given that HTML messages are almost ubiquitous, it might be a good idea for you to upgrade to a more robust e-mail package. It seems rather unfair to ask that others lose functionality because you do not wish to modernize.

Hi all, can the list serv that gw micro uses do something about
eliminating the html at the beginning of a lot of messages that goes
v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);}
w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);}

because many times when I see this, I get discouraged, and move on to a
message that doesn't have this. There's also some html that is
something like font face cambrea math, etcetera, and I wonder if this
can be eliminated? I use pm mail version 2717, on a windows 98 se
machine, with window-eyes 5.5, and pm mail doesn't handle html at all
well, often times, leaving the raw coding in a given message.
