I agree with the Total Recorder suggestions. It will certainly do everything you want to do, is very accessible and isn't expensive. Someone a couple of weeks ago, sorry I've forgotten your name, was asking about software that would bring a computer out of standby. Total Recorder will do that, but may be some issues on some machines - still testing that.
I have a set file with user windows set up to read current position, file length and details of a marked segment - convenient but not absolutely necessary. Scheduling options are very flexible and completely accessible. While it essentially doubles the cost of the Professional Edition, the AGC and Speech Enhancement add-on is a very convenient way of getting an optimal recording level without the effort. While no doubt frowned upon by professionals, it is very effective in many situations. As a bytheway, it seems to me that Total Recorder would make a very accessible video recorder. One would need a TV tuner on the computer. If recordings were to be viewed by sighted people, the Video add-on would be necessary.
