Hi Raul,

I think taking all 4 machines in to gw and having them put the debug code on there to find out the differences would be the best.
Please let us know what happens.
Sam

Hello. The funny thing about Window-Eyes and notepad is that it only happens on 1 of my 3 machines. Actually, I have access to 4 of them, 1 Vista ultimate, 1 Vista home premium, 1 xp home, and 1 xp pro. The Vista home premium is the one with the notepad editing issues. The rest are fine in all aspects.

Well, I'm not scared, and there's no need to be. As a person that does a lot of tech support and trouble shooting and custom builds computer systems, never needing any sighted assistance installing any computer operating systems, and with the latest version of window-eyes 7.0 I do not have any of the issues that anyone has experienced on the list, except those in which gw-micro has stated that they could duplicate. Of course many of those were resolved by the time of the final release of 7.0. This release is definitely rock solid. I believe as rock solid as 6.1, possibly more so. In addition a lot of the bugs that were in 6.1 were resolved in this release. "window-eyes and note-pad aren't good friends right now." I can not duplicate the problems you're having with notepad. "I pop over to jaws, and they do great, no skipped lines or missed
characters.
same with eudora." I don't have to pop over to jaws to resolve those issues you're having with window-eyes, they just simply aren't happening here with window-eyes. "Also jaws stays put on web-pages, if I'm doing general reading, i
like to use we, but if i'm hoping back and forth between windows we
drives me nuts because it's like a slippery snake and wanting to
bounce back to the top.
" I'm not experiencing the jumping back to the top of web pages, so the snake's not slipping here. I wish it wasn't for you. There may be a few pages that are missbehaved and seeings I believe that could be happening there fore I believe jaws and other screen readers from time to time may have difficulties with those web pages. A few things to try, this has actually helped me with certain applications in the past. 1. do a fresh reinstall of the set files for that particular application and if your using a script produced for that application make sure you have the latest version of that script installed, and always check to make sure you have the most recent window-eyes tool kit script installed. As a footnote I agree that the latest drivers for your video and sound card are not always going to resolve the problems you're having. However in most cases they should. Having said that there have been cases that updating drivers didn't work out. So therefore, I always recomend a way to go back to drivers that at least worked some what for you. This can be done very easily and can be done without any sighted assistance. Also as a good hardware tech, this does not happen very often, but on rare occasions I've observed certain models of different components not working together and if they do, they do not very well. Several years ago, as a matter of fact, I built a computer system for one of the members on this list. At that time I did not realize that the video card I put in the system did not get along very well with the mother board. The good news is that this eventually was resolved. I only bring this to your attention to share with you that hardware which there are many components in a computer, and the software adds up being a very complex situation, and in some cases a complicated situation. I shared this hardware story with you because it's always easy to put the blame on window-eyes when in fact it could be something completely different. It could range from anything, such as memmory going bad at any time to a hard drive completely crashing on your next boot up. I hope and think you'll get the idea. As an access Evangelist and wanting all of you to achiev as much independence as possible, if you don't already know how to do these things, my recomendation is to learn how. I, and other members are here on the list to help any time. This is my contact info:

Well, as someone who does tech support, and trouble shoots stuf, I tend to always check for the latest drivers for stuff.

I don't always use them depending, sometimes if it ain't broke, don't fix it, some updates can actually degrade performance.

But for us nvidia users the latest drivers for the

8400 stuff is a june release.

With that thing about notpad, that's funny you should say that, because that is definitely an osm thing.

I know that was a joke to lighten the mood, but window-eyes and not-pad aren't good friends right now.

But I pop over to jaws, and they do great, no skipped lines or missed characters.

same with eudora.

Also jaws stays put on web-pages, if I'm doing general reading, i like to use we, but if i'm hoping back and forth between windows we drives me nuts because it's like a slippery snake and wanting to bounce back to the top.

I guess that's a future browse mode fix 'grin'.

I guess I'll have to call myself so I can tell myself to update to the
latest driver. <smile>. As I reflect on this, here is something of how
the call would proceed.

Support: Good afternoon. This is Raul.

Caller: Hello, is this support?

Support: Well you did press 1 at our prompt for technical support, did
you not?

Caller: Well yes, but I wanted to be sure. What did you say your name
was again?

Support: My name is Raul. How can I help you?

Caller: Did you say Rollo?

Support: No, I said Raul. You can pronounce it Raw Ool.

Caller: OK Paul, that is great. Can you help me? I am having a problem
editing in notepad. Characters ding when I arrow over them.

Support: Which version of Windows are you running?

Caller: I have 7.0. I just got it in the mail 2 days ago.

Support. Not Window-Eyes. What version of Windows are you running? As in
XP, Vista, 2000? ETC.

Caller: Oh sorry. I have Vista.

Support: Have you updated to the latest video drivers?

Caller: Yes, I used Microsoft's Windows update earlier today and got the
newest ones. They have a date of April 1, 2007

Support: No, that does not work most of the time. You need to go to the
actual manufacturer's web site to get the latest ones.

Caller: OK, but I thought you guys at GW say that it don't matter which
video card you use.

Support: That is correct. However old drivers, buggy drivers, and
sometimes Microsoft drivers don't cut it for the best experience.

Caller: OK. I'll get the latest drivers. And if that don't fix it, what
then?

Support: If that does not work, you might have a bad card or you might
have to reinstall Windows. It's not the best thing, but Vista sometimes
has bad video issues in general and so this is why sometimes video
issues are worse in Vista than in XP.

Caller: That seems a bit extreme.

Support: I realize this, and I wish I had a better answer. Another
solution you can try is sending us the machine so we can put some debug
code on it and see if Window-Eyes is the cause of the problems.

Caller: I can't be without my machine. It's the only one I have and I
would go through withdrawals and I need to pay my bills because I do all
my Internet banking on it.

Support: I can definitely understand because I do the same thing.

Caller: OK Robert, many thanks and I'll keep you updated with my findings.

Support: Great! And I hope the only issue is getting a newer driver.
Please let us know if we can help further. Thanks for calling.

Click.
