I promise not to continue to discuss this subject endlessly, but let me make some points here. I am the moderator of the Victor Reader Stream discussion list which boasts a membership of close to 500 subscribers. When I first began moderating the list, I was one of those people who was absolutely convinced that replies should go to the entire list by default. After struggling with a really high-traffic list such as the VR Stream list and having that list configured in the way described above and then changing that configuration to the one GW Micro employs on this list, I have done a complete 180 on this issue. Let me state my reasons: 1. By default, control-shift-R in most e-mail probrams replies to the entire list and control-R replies to individuals. This makes the process of replying privately when necessary quite efficient. 2. If a person takes the time to reply to the entire list, they may actually not send that impulsive angry message or the useless "me too" message that so often floods lists. 3. The list moderators can easily deal with any private correspondence that is required, thereby making list moderation quite effortless in that regard. 4. The only disadvantage with this particular list is that one must delete the original sender's address from the "to" field of each message sent to the list or else the original sender will receive duplicate messages. Mailman handles this automatically so it isn't an issue on the VR Stream list. I will confess that I have flip-flopped a bit on this issue where the VR Stream list is concerned, changing it back and forth a couple of times; not something I would recommend a moderator to do. I can assure you that from now on, the VR Stream list will stay in its present configuration and I suspect that any amount of begging will not cause GW Micro to reconsider their stance on this policy either, although I don't work for the company and perhaps should not speak for them. This is the only thing I will say on this topic on list. Thanks for reading. _____

Hi GW, I would like to request a reconsideration in the list policy which directs replies to the author, instead of to the list. It does make having a conversation which may benefit others much harder, and if I forget and send a reply to the author only, I don't always bother to resend it to the list. I think the list is a wonderful customer support option, and I hope it saves you guys some work. I'm hoping this change will mean more information will end up on the list. thanks for the consideration.
