I'm sure you're right Michael; it's not every IE 8 installation that's
problematic.

I'm working hard to disable software, change settings back to their
defaults, etc., in an effort to find what it might be.

 It's not even consistent for me; sometimes a page will be fine, WE will
turn browsemode on after it's loaded, and I don't get any error messages
about IE crashing.  then other times the same page will have all the
problems I've mentioned, so I am not sure it's even a particular setting or
piece of software, but some timing issue.

as far as IE 8 is concerned, it seems to be computer by computer basis.  I
am working on a laptop right now with ie 8 running windows vista, and no
issues, however, on my desktop, running win xp, i installed ie 8 and had to
uninstall it, and that did not go so good, so i had to reinstall windows xp
again, not good.
