most all computers built now are 64 bit and window eyes will not run on them. but if you wait 8 months then you will have a wider choice of brands to choose from because the 64 bit version of window eyes, openbook and windows 7 will be out. the 64bit window eyes will only cost $20 for the cd if you have version 7.01 now. i am not sure on this but i think you could still run xp 32 bit on a 64 bit system if you have a dual boot. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chip Orange" <[email protected]>

the trouble with waiting is that there is always something just about to be
released, any day now, that's worth waiting for. you'll never be able to
buy anything that way.

I think it's better to admit that xp is gone, and you'll be buying vista or windows 7, and learning them isn't a big deal; we've got many people on this
list running vista.

i would wait about 8 months when windows 7 is released. its just as fast as
xp and the premium version i think will have the ability to run xp in a
vurtual desktop.
the other thing is if it is a 64bit system window eyes will not work on it
until version 7.1 is released. so i would wait if possable untill both are
released by december hopefully.

My impression is that Dell's and Lenovo's (formerly Thinkpads) are
better quality and better supported; but you'll never get everyone
here or anywhere to agree on things like that.

it's going to be difficult to buy XP these days.

Hi guys. I am writing this message for my friend. He is looking for a
Windows XP laptop that works well with Window Eyes. He needs it to be
13-14 inches, thin, light, and has a Intel Duel Core processor, long
battery life, 2 to 4 gigs of ram, and over 200 gigs of harddrive
memory. He was thinking about getting a Soney but wanted to see what
you guys thought first. Any suggestions you can give will be greatly
appreciated.
