Well, let's not get things mixed up. Yes, most, if not all, computers nowaday, will be running a 64bit processor. They can still, though, run a 32bit version of the XP or Vista, with no dualboot necceasary. Both my computers do that. And, there is still chances to get even brand new pcs with the XP installed. Try a search on places like EBay, for instance, I just picked up one from there a few weeks ago, with XP installed, and using WE7.01 on it, right now. From the specs that were given in the initial message, I even would say, you might be OK even if the laptop is not 100% brand new. I picked up my laptop, an HP Compaq, secondhand, and am pretty pleased with that one. It is only just over a year, and would cover the specs initially given. All I had to do, was to upgrade the RAM, but even that is a not too deep duck in your pocket, these days. Even if you don't get the big hard drive, it might be a sugesstion to go for a USB hard drive, which you can get all the way up to 500gb, and which can be good for storing backups etc. I also want to point out, that I have seen MANY desktop/laptops announced with Vista, but which holds the DOWN-GRADING license, for XP; meaning that you simply make the choice, first time you turn on the PC, or in some cases, you will need do one phone call. Check out the specs on systems carefully, or ask your dealer, if the system you are about to buy, will have this feature. And just one more point, Intel or AMD CPU, well it's a matter of choice, but both run smoothly with WE. Personally I switched to AMD a few months ago, and I have had no problems that would be related to the CPU (AMD specifies the cores with X2, or X4, which indicates respectively dual or quadro core). ----- Original Message ----- From: "net bat" <[email protected]>

most all computers built now are 64 bit and window eyes will not run on them. but if you wait 8 months then you will have a wider choice of brands to choose from because the 64 bit version of window eyes, openbook and windows 7 will be out. the 64bit window eyes will only cost $20 for the cd if you have version 7.01 now. i am not sure on this but i think you could still run xp 32 bit on a 64 bit system if you have a dual boot. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chip Orange" <[email protected]>

the trouble with waiting is that there is always something just about to be released, any day now, that's worth waiting for. you'll never be able to
buy anything that way.

I think it's better to admit that xp is gone, and you'll be buying vista or windows 7, and learning them isn't a big deal; we've got many people on this
list running vista.

i would wait about 8 months when windows 7 is released. its just as fast as
xp and the premium version i think will have the ability to run xp in a
vurtual desktop.
the other thing is if it is a 64bit system window eyes will not work on it until version 7.1 is released. so i would wait if possable untill both are
released by december hopefully.

My impression is that Dell's and Lenovo's (formerly Thinkpads) are
better quality and better supported; but you'll never get everyone
here or anywhere to agree on things like that.

it's going to be difficult to buy XP these days.

Hi guys. I am writing this message for my friend. He is looking for a
Windows XP laptop that works well with Window Eyes. He needs it to be
13-14 inches, thin, light, and has a Intel Duel Core processor, long
battery life, 2 to 4 gigs of ram, and over 200 gigs of harddrive
memory. He was thinking about getting a Soney but wanted to see what
you guys thought first. Any suggestions you can give will be greatly
appreciated.
