Chip and Tina, I don't know what all of GW Micro's concerns might be, but from my experience in other areas, one concern is whether list software will change without notice. If one just manages one list, one can move to a different list provider. If a company manages several lists and they have a commitment to users and have it pre-printed in literature they distribute, they are left in a real bind if a list provider suddenly institutes Captcha's or rolls out an inaccessible web site or even one that doesn't work with their product very well. Also, while it can be resolved, I've also seen Freelist addresses flagged as spam although I've seen it less often with Google Groups. I guess my question is whether as moderators, do you get notice of changes that might be coming to the software that your lists depend on? In the past, I've seen accessibility issues arise without any notice at all on other common list providers, and can understand why a company might want to control the server and software they use, but maybe moderators have more input with Freelists and GoogleGroups.

If you reply to this message it will be delivered to the original sender only. If your reply would benefit others on the list and your message is related to GW Micro, then please consider sending your message to [email protected] so the entire list will receive it. All GW-Info messages are archived at http://www.gwmicro.com/gwinfo, and can be searched through and sorted using the search form at the bottom of the page. If you wish to unsubscribe from this list, send a message to [email protected] and include leave gw-info in the body of the message.
